Nieve / Snow

Pequeña Mita se queda asombrada por ver cómo sus amigos farenji tienen la cara cada día más roja. Les ha preguntado el porqué y le han contado que en sus países no hay tanto sol como en Etiopía.
En algunos lugares sólo disfrutan de pleno sol durante tres meses al año y que, en invierno, hace muchísimo frío e incluso nieva.
Tampoco sabe lo que es la nieve, pero por lo que le han contado debe ser muy divertida: pueden hacer batallas de bolas de nieve, montar en trineo, esquiar, hacer muñecos de nieve...

Little Mita is amazed because her farenji friends have a redder face every day. She asked them why and they told her that where they live there is not as much sunlight as in Ethiopia.
In some place people enjoy the sunlight only three months a year and in winter it's very cold and it snows.
She doesn't know what snow is, but she's been told it's really funny: they can make snowball battles, ride a sleigh, ski, make snowmen...

Halloween

Los nuevos amigos de Pequeña Mita le hablan de una noche especial en la que los niños se disfrazan y van de casa en casa pidiendo caramelos y cuentan historias de miedo.
A ella la parece muy curioso que les guste pasar miedo y lo hagan una noche en concreto del año. En cambio para Mita ya es bastante aterrador tener que salir de su casa cuando ya ha anochecido. No se ve nada y su madre no le deja sacar la vela con que alumbran el interior... Así que se tiene que armar de valor y salir a oscuras de su casa si necesita "ir al baño".
Por la noche se oyen rugidos que la asustan, y más de una vez ha vuelto a su casa corriendo porque se ha cruzado con una serpiente.

Mita's new friends talked her about a special night. The kids put on fancy dresses and they go from house to house asking for sweets and telling horror stories.
She thinks it's curious to have fun being scared and do it one night every year. However for Mita it's really frightening to go outside her house at night. You can't see anything and her mother doesn't let her take out the candle that illuminates the house... So she must be brave and go out at night when she needs to goo to the "bathroom".
Every night she hears frightening roars, and from time to time she has to come back home running because she's seen a snake.

¡Feliz Año Nuevo nuestra querida Etiopía!
Hoy, 11 de septiembre de 2014, según nuestro calendario, comienza en Etiopía el año 2007 ya que se rigen por el calendario juliano.
Es momento de celebraciones, lucir las mejores galas, fin de la época de lluvias, cambio de año, comienzo de cosechas... y lo más importante para nosotros: ¡la vuelta al cole de Tesfanesh y Bereket!

Happy New Year to our beloved Ethiopia!
Today, 11th of september 2014, according to our calendar, begins the year 2007 in Ethiopia which is ruled by the Julian calendar.
It's time for celebration, put on their best dresses, the end of the rainy season, the beginning of a new year, the beginning of the harvest... and the most important for us: Tesfanesh and Bereket are going back to school!

Sorteo 2014 / Raffle 2014

Gracias a todos vosotros Pequeña Mita ha podido realizar el envío para el 2014 y pagar los estudios a Tesfanesh y Bereket, incluso a su hermano mayor Tamirat.

Hermanos / Brothers

A Pequeña Mita le parece interesante ver que sus amigos farenji no suelen tener hermanos... Interesante a la vez que preocupante porque siendo sólo uno ¿con quién juegan en casa? ¿quién se encarga de ir a buscar agua? ¿o leña?
Ella tiene cuatro hermanos y comparando su familia al resto de vecinos son pocos. Lo habitual es que sean siete u ocho. De esta forma es más sencillo repartir las tareas.
Sus amigos también la cuentan que ser tres hermanos en sus países se consideran familia numerosa. Deben de estar locos...

Little Mita thinks it's interesting that her farenji friends don't have any brothers or sisters... It's interesting and also disturbing, because if you are only one ¿who do you play with at home? Who is going to fetch water? Or firewood?
She's got four brothers, and if she compares that with their neighbours it seems not enough. The usual is seven or eight. That way it is easier to distribute the home tasks.
Her friends tell her that being three brothers and sisters the family is considered a large family. They must be crazy...

Envío 2014 / Delivery 2014

Y por fin llegó el momento tan esperado. El paquete ya está preparado y en la oficina de Correos esperando viajar hasta nuestra amada Etiopía.
Para el 2014 Pequeña Mita ha conseguido unos playeros nuevos para toda su familia, unos zuecos, unas linternas dinamos, pantalones, camisetas, material escolar y, lo más importante, ¡costear los estudios para el próximo curso!
De esta forma Tesfanesh y Bereket, incluso su hermano mayor, podrán ir al colegio sin preocuparse de la ropa ni del coste de la escuela.

At last we did it! The parcel is ready and at the post office waiting to travel to our beloved Ethiopia.
For 2014 Little Mita got new sport shoes for all the family, flat shoes, dynamo lanterns, trousers, T-shirts, school supplies and the most important, Little Mita is paying the cost of next year's school!
This way Tesfanesh and Bereket and even his older brother will go to school without worrying about their clothes or the payment of the school.

Objetivo 2014 / Aim 2014

Pequeña Mita está loca de contenta. Ha echado cuentas y... ¡objetivo para el 2014 cumplido!
Ahora toca recuperar fuerzas y centrarse para conseguir el objetivo para el siguiente año.
Su sueño, en cambio, tendrá que esperar...

Little Mita is incredibly happy! She's been doing the maths and... 2014 aim achieved!
Now is time to recover and focus on next year's aim. Her dream, though, must wait.

Feria II / Fair II

Pequeña Mita ha asistido a su segunda feria. La han acompañado las Mini Mitas, monitos TOTA, el perro WUSHA, el león ANBESA, llaveros y pulseras. Algunos amigos han vuelto con ella, otros no.
Hemos tenido una gran acogida, ¡muchísimas gracias a todos!

Little Mita went to her second fair. She went with the Mini Mitas, the TOTA monkeys, WUSHA the dog, ANBESA the lion, and some keychains and bracelets. Some friends came back with her, some didn't.
We had a really good acceptance, thanks everybody!

Animales / Animals

- Mamá, además del mono ¿vas a hacer más animales?
- Sí, tengo pensado hacer leones, elefantes, osos, mariposas...
- ¿Cuánto cuestan?
- Pues 8 euros ¿por qué?
- ¡Para comprarte un león!
- No, cariño, a tí te hago el que quieras.

Twist

Para Pequeña Mita siempre ha sido un reto llevar el pelo suelto. Una forma de conseguirlo ha sido haciéndole twist en su pelo afro. La ventaja es que se pueden hacer del ancho que se quiera incluso mezclarlo con lana de cualquier color.

It's always been a challenge for Little Mita to wear her hair loose. A way is to make a twist in her afro hair. The main advantage is that she can make it as wide as she likes or even mix it with a colourful wool.

Religión / Religion

Pequeña Mita tiene 6 años y es demasiado pequeña para ser bautizada en su religión. En cambio, algunos de sus amigos farenjis unos años mayores que ella, no sólo están bautizados si no que además ya han hecho su primera comunión.
Lo más raro es que han sido bautizados con semanas de vida, en cambio para ella lo normal es que un bebé pase sus primeros 40 días encerrado en casa sin ver la luz del sol.

Little Mita is six years old and she is not old enough to be baptised in her religion. Some of her farenji friends who are a little bit older are baptised and received the First Communion.
The weirdest thing is that they where baptised with a few weeks of life, but in her country babies spend their 40 first days of life inside their house.

Feria / Fair

Pequeña Mita ha sido invitada a una feria para darse a conocer. Ha llamado a sus amigos para que la acompañen y entre todos dar un empujón para alcanzar su objetivo.
Como será imposible personalizarlas in situ, he optado por llevarlas con estas camisetas. ¿Qué os parecen?

Little Mita has been invited to a fair to make herself known. She called her friends to accompany her and help achieve her aim.
As it will be impossible to customize them, I will take them with these T-shirts. Do you like them?

Llavero / Keychain

Pequeña Mita no deja de insistir en seguir buscando formas de recaudar el dinero necesario para cumplir su sueño. Ahora es el turno de los llaveros. Miden 9 cm de alto y puedes elegir el tono de piel, el color del pelo y el peinado.

Little Mita can't stop looking for new ways to collect enough money to make her dream come true. Now it's the turn for keychains. They are 3,5 inch tall and you can choose the colour of the skin and hair, and the hairstyle.

Zapatos / Shoes

Pequeña Mita mira con curiosidad los pies de los farenjis, siempre con zapatos y de muchas formas y colores. Ella, en cambio, prefiere ir descalza. Tal vez sea porque sus únicos chamma están muy estropeados y hace años que le vienen pequeños...
Hasta el gran Abebe Bikila ganó la medalla de oro en la maratón de los Juegos Olímpicos de Roma en 1960 ¡descalzo!

Los etíopes cuidan mucho su imagen y en Addis Abeba no existe rincón en el que no haya un limpiabotas ofreciendo sus servicios.

Little Mita looks with curiosity the feet of the farenjis, always with colorful and with lots of shapes shoes. She prefers to walk barefoot. Maybe because her only chamma are broken and it's been a long time since they don't fit her...
Even the great Abebe Bikila won a gold medal in the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome ¡barefoot!

Ethiopian people take care of their physical appearance and there isn't a single corner in Addis Ababa without a shoe cleaner boy.

Mini Abush

Abush, niño pequeño en amariña, ha tardado un poco más en llegar pero ha venido a ayudar a Mita.
Al igual que Mini Mita, Mini Abush mide 20 cm y va vestido con el traje típico etíope. Como no puede ser de otra forma, puedes elegir el bordado del traje y el color.

Abush, little baby boy in Amharic, came a little bit later but is here to help Mita.
Just like Mini Mita, Mini Abush  is 9 inch tall and is dressed with the typical Ethiopian dress.
Of course, you can choose the color and the embroidery in the dress.

El mes de marzo para nosotros es un mes de celebración: juicio, sentencia y viaje a conocer a nuestros hijos.
¡Y para celebrar el cuarto aniversario qué mejor que hacer un sorteo de una Pequeña Mita!

Carnaval / Carnival

Los nuevos amigos de Mita la han contado algunas costumbres de sus países. Se ha quedado un poco asustada cuando la han dicho que, si te portas bien durante un año y escribes una carta, un señor muy gordo entra en tu casa! Eso sí, no a robar si no a dejar el regalo que le hayas pedido.
Cuando se te cae un diente, si lo dejas debajo de la almohada, a la mañana siguiente habrá desaparecido y en su lugar habrá una moneda. En esta historia no se ponen de acuerdo. Algunos hablan de un ratón o otros de un hada...
Lo que más gracia le ha hecho ha sido la celebración del Carnaval. En estos días la gente se disfraza de lo que más le gustaría ser.

Mita's new friends told her some of their countries' customs. She was a little scared when they told her that if you are a good girl for a whole year and you write a letter, a big fat man comes into your house! He won't rob you, instead he will give you the present you asked for.
When one of your baby teeth falls down, if you leave it under your pillow, next morning in will disappear and in its place will be a coin. People don't agree with this story. Some say it's a mouse who takes the tooth, and some say it's a fairy.
She found really funny the Carnival celebration. That days people put on fancy dresses and pretend to be other people.

Amigos / Friends

Pequeña Mita está haciendo muchos amigos tanto farenjis como habeshas, grandes o pequeños, todos quieren ayudarla a conseguir su sueño.

Little Mita is making new friends: farenjis and habeshas, big and small people, and all of them want to help her to achieve her dream.

Farenji

La palabra farenji viene de la palabra French.

Los franceses ayudaron a construir la línea de ferrocarril que conecta Addis Abeba con Djibuti a principios del siglo XX.
Posteriormente derivó fonéticamente a farenji, que es como los etíopes denominan a los extranjeros blancos.

Etiopía, para un farenji, huele a leña quemada, gasolina, berbere, tierra, incienso...
Ese olor te inunda nada más aterrizar y te acompaña durante todo el viaje.

The word farenji comes from the word French.
French people helped building the railway that connects Addis Ababa with Djibuti in the beginning of the twentieth century.
Later the word was phonetically changing to farenji, which is the one Ethiopian people call the white men.

For a farenji Ethiopia smells like burnt wood, petrol, berbere, earth, incense... That smell surrounds you just before landing and accompanies you along the travel.

Mini Mita

Estando en Addis Abeba es difícil no caer en la tentación de acercarse a la zona de Piazza o al Merkato para comprar souvenirs de todo tipo: camisetas, netelas, alguna cruz ortodoxa, bisutería, incluso algún complemento de plata.
En mi opinión, no estaría mal encontrar algún juguete, puesto que muchos de nosotros viajamos para culminar una adopción y sería bonito poder traer algún muñeco que acompañe a nuestros peques en su nuevo viaje.

Mini Mita mide 20 cm y puedes elegir el bordado del vestido y el color.


If you go to Addis Ababa is difficult not to fall into the temptation of visiting Piazza or Merkato to buy some souvenirs: t-shirts, netela, an orthodox cross, jewelry or even a silver accessory.
In my opinion it would be good to find there some toys, because a lot of us travel just to finish and adoption and it woudl be nice if we could bring home a doll who accompanies our little boys and girls in their new travel.

Celebración / Celebration

Como buena etíope, Pequeña Mita se pone sus mejores galas en ocasiones especiales.
Está preparando una celebración y para ello se ha ido al merkato donde inunda las calles el olor a berbere, ha comprado unos granos de buna y de teff para preparar una deliciosa injera y realizar la ceremonia del café.
Será para celebrar el nuevo año, la Navidad... no lo sé pero así de guapa ha quedado vestida con su traje etíope y su netela:

She's a good ethiopian girl, so Little Mita gets dressed with her best dress for special ocassions. She's preparing for a celebration so she went to merkato where the smell of berbere flows, she bought some buna and teff to prepare a delicious injera and make the coffee ceremony.
I don't know if she will celebrate New Year's Day or Christmas with this dress, but... she is really beatiful dressed with this ethiopian costume and her netela.
And, just in case: MELKAM ADDIS AMET and MELKAM GENA to everybody.

Pelo / Hair

La muñeca etíope Pequeña Mita siempre está perfectamente peinada con sus trenzas de lana.

Pero, ¿quién no ha caído en la tentación de hacer unos moñetes a su pequeña de pelo afro?
Es lo que me ha ocurrido con Pequeña Mita. Tras prepararla el pelo con trenzas de dos cabos, se lo he recogido en dos coletas y este ha sido el resultado:

The Ethiopian doll Little Mita is always perfectly combed with her woolen braid.

Who hasn't fallen into the temptation of doing her little bumps in her little Afro hair? That's what happened to me with Little Mita. After preparing her hair with two tail-ending braids, y made her two ponytails and this is the result.

Color / Colour

Mita es una muñeca de trapo completamente hecha a mano, su ropa, su pelo trenzado y ojos bordados. Mide 40 cm, lleva un collar con la bandera etíope y una falda blanca. Puedes elegir el color de la camiseta y de la mariposa. También puede llevar la inicial que quieras. ¡Personalízala!

Mita is an completely handmade softie doll with embroidery eyes, clothes and plaited hair. It's 40 cm long (16 inch), it has got a necklace with the Ethiopian flag and a white skirt. You can choose the T-shirt and butterfly colours. You can also choose the letter you want. Customize it!

Objetivo / Aim

El objetivo de Mita es que Tesfanesh y Bereket terminen sus estudios. Para ello es necesario enviarles dinero para que no tengan que abandonar el colegio para empezar a trabajar. Están en 5º curso y muy motivadas.
El mayor sueño de Mita es que vengan a España en verano para pasar un mes junto a sus hermanos pequeños adoptados hace 4 años.
¡Llévate a Mita a casa por 22 euros y haz que su objetivo y su sueño se cumplan!
Recuerda que es una muñeca completamente artesanal.

The aim of Mita is that Tesfanesh and Bereket finish their studies. That's why she needs to send them money so they don't have to give up school and start working. They are in 5th grade and really motivated.
Mita's biggest dream is that these girls come to Spain in summer to spend a month with their younger brothers who were adopted 4 years ago.
